Saona
Updated 22 September 2026. Written by TripTap for this site.
Saona sits in Cotubanamá National Park. A normal day is a road transfer to a dock, usually Bayahíbe, then a boat. What to get in writing before you pay.
You do not drive there from the hotel strip
Isla Saona is in Cotubanamá National Park, the park long called Parque Nacional del Este, off the southeast coast. A normal visit from a Punta Cana hotel is a road transfer to a dock and then a boat. The dock travelers actually use is usually Bayahíbe, west of the hotel strip, not a pier behind your resort.
We are not printing a departure clock. Sellers advertise a morning start and a late-afternoon return. Your confirmation has to name the pickup time at your hotel, or the time you must be in Bayahíbe if you get yourself there. From a Bávaro hotel the road to Bayahíbe is a real drive. People often describe it as about an hour, and traffic makes it longer. Treat “about an hour” as a warning to confirm, not as a timetable from TripTap.
What the day is trying to be
Shared boats are selling a beach day with a ride, not a private island. The boat is either a speedboat or a catamaran unless your note says something else. A speedboat is wet and loud. A catamaran is slower. Ask which hull you are on. Those are different days for anyone who gets seasick.
Many boats stop on a shallow sandbar that sellers call the natural pool. On a busy day it is a crowd standing in clear water, not a private lagoon. If that stop is why you are going, ask whether it is on your departure or whether it is dropped when the sea is rough.
Time on a Saona beach is the rest of the product. Shade is limited. Mano Juan is a community on the island; some boats stop there and some never do. Do not tell your group there is a village visit unless the confirmation names Mano Juan.
The list to get in writing before you pay
Send one message and do not pay against a brochure that skipped these lines. A price that changed after you said the hotel name is the transfer being added late. Make them show the transfer as its own line.
- Hotel pickup: included from your exact hotel, or only from Bayahíbe?
- Is the national-park fee inside the price, or cash you bring to a window?
- Is lunch inside the price? If you do not eat fish, is there another plate, or are you bringing your own food?
- Which drinks are included? “Open bar” is often beer and rum, not every bottle on the boat.
- What time are you back at the hotel door? A pickup before 8:00 and a return after dark is a long day with children. Get the clock.
- If the sea cancels the sandbar or the landing, what do they do with the money? We do not publish their rule. Ask for it.
What to avoid
Do not leave a phone in a bag on the sand while you swim. Shared landings are busy. Do not bring a drone unless the operator and someone responsible for the park both said yes in writing. Assume the answer is no. We are not citing a statute on this page.
Do not stack Saona and an evening show on the same date until the return time is written down. Do not accept “lunch included” as the only sentence on the confirmation. Lunch can still leave the park fee and the hotel pickup as extras.
We are not publishing a TripTap price for this day. Get the total per person, with the park fee and the pickup marked included or extra. A dollar figure copied from another website would be their price, on their date, for their boat.
