What a day outside the hotel costs

Money

Updated 22 September 2026. Written by TripTap for this site.

An all-inclusive wristband does not pay for taxis, park fees, or lunch on a boat. How to add up a day off the property without using a made-up total.

The wristband stops at the hotel gate

If the hotel is all-inclusive, the wristband pays for that hotel’s food and drinks on the terms the hotel gave you. It does not pay for a taxi, a national-park fee, a buggy deposit, or lunch on Saona. The day you leave has a cost even when the room already felt prepaid.

We are not printing a sample budget in dollars. A number on this page would be a guess on 22 September 2026. Use the pieces below and fill them with quotes you actually received that week.

Add the day in five lines

Write the five lines down before you say yes to a desk in the lobby. A single “from” price usually hides at least one of them.

  • Leaving the hotel: a taxi, or a transfer already inside an outing. See the taxi guide. We do not print an in-town fare.
  • The outing itself, if you booked one: the total per person, in writing.
  • Food the outing does not include. If you are off the wristband, read the menu before you sit. Menus on the tourist strip are often priced in US dollars. Ask.
  • The ride back. Count two rides unless the confirmation says round trip.
  • A tip, and any deposit. Ask if a tip is expected and whether a deposit is held in cash.

What different days look like, without fake totals

Staying on the hotel beach can cost nothing extra. That is a real choice, not a failure. A lunch and a pharmacy run in Bávaro is two taxi rides plus whatever the menu says that day. An afternoon at Macao is two taxi rides or a buggy booking, plus anything you buy on the sand, and there is no hotel bar tab waiting there.

Saona is a full day. Pickups are often early and returns are often late, but the clock is whatever your confirmation says, not a clock we are publishing. The price is the boat plus whatever that confirmation left out: park fee, lunch, hotel pickup. Do not put Saona and a night show on the same date until the return time is written down.

A buggy afternoon is the written vehicle price plus a deposit you might not get back in the same hour, plus photos if you say yes to the camera, plus a taxi if the meeting point is not your lobby.

What to avoid

A “free” day that starts at a timeshare desk is a sales meeting. Ask how long the presentation is before you give up the morning. Do not pay a restaurant in a currency you did not agree. Do not assume the hotel will put a taxi on your room. They usually will not. Do not take more cash to the beach than you need for that day.

If a lobby seller will not split the price into transfer, activity, and extras, you do not yet know what the day costs. Walk back to the room and send the five lines by email. TripTap’s address for that question is on the contact page.
