Taxis

In-town taxis are not the airport queue. Agree the fare, the currency, and the exact door before you sit down, and do not count on an app car inside a resort gate.
This is not the airport taxi
The authorized desk at PUJ is a separate system, with a board you can read after customs. A taxi from your hotel lobby to a pharmacy, to Macao, or to another hotel is a different conversation. There is no meter you should count on. Agree the fare before you sit down.
Ask two follow-ups every time. Is the number for the whole car or for each person? Is it US dollars or Dominican pesos? A fare that was only “ten,” with no currency, is how the argument starts when you get out.
The car at the lobby is often the expensive one
The vehicle waiting at a resort door is often the hotel’s own taxi. It is allowed to be there, and it is often priced for convenience. Some resorts do not let any other car stop at the lobby. Ask the concierge two questions before you need the ride: can another taxi pick me up at this door, and what is your taxi’s fare to the place I am naming?
Walking out to a main road can be a different price, when the hotel allows it and the walk is ordinary. Do not do that at night on a road with no sidewalk because a forum said it was cheaper. Ask the concierge if the walk is one they send guests on.
Apps, return rides, and cash
Do not build the day around an app car inside a resort gate. If you use an app, confirm that the driver is allowed to reach the lobby. Many hotels only let certain cars stop at the door. That rule belongs to the hotel and it changes. We are not publishing a 2026 list of which properties allow which apps.
Agree the way back before you are standing on a beach at dusk. Either book the return with the same driver and write the time down, or keep the number of a taxi you already used. “We will find one” is not a plan at Macao in the late afternoon.
Carry small cash. Do not hand a card to a driver who does not have a reader you can see. We are not publishing a dollar-to-peso rate. Confirm the currency before you nod.
What to avoid
Do not get in and let the fare be “decided on the way.” Do not pay for a tour that is only a taxi to a public beach until they say what else you are buying. Do not say “the beach” as the destination. Say Macao, the supermarket’s name, or the other hotel’s name.
A short hop between two Bávaro hotels and a ride from Cap Cana to Macao are not the same trip. If the driver has to clear a Cap Cana gate, ask that question before you sit down. The airport guide covers the arrival ride. Use that one for PUJ, not this one.
