An afternoon out of a Bávaro hotel

Outing

Updated 22 September 2026. Written by TripTap for this site.

How to leave a Bávaro resort for a few hours: what the commercial strip is for, how to price two taxi rides, and what not to buy from a lobby desk on the way out.

What this afternoon is

This is not a park ticket. It is a few hours off a Bávaro hotel: a pharmacy, a supermarket, a meal that is not on the wristband, or a look at the coast outside your resort’s gate. Bávaro is the hotel strip north of the airport. Between the resorts there is an ordinary commercial road. That road is the useful part of leaving.

Cap Cana is a different afternoon, with a gate question. If your hotel is in Cap Cana, use that briefing instead of this one. If your hotel is in Uvero Alto, say so to the taxi driver. You are north of the cluster people mean when they say “ten minutes to the shops.”

Time and transfer

Go in daylight the first time. Ask the concierge which door taxis may use, and whether you are allowed to walk to the main road. Ask them to name a supermarket and a pharmacy guests actually use, and write the names down. “The mall” is not a destination until it has a name.

Agree the taxi fare to that door, and the fare back, before you leave the lobby. Two rides. Currency named. The taxi guide is the longer version. We are not printing a 2026 fare for a hop along Bávaro.

What you will probably pay for

The wristband does not follow you into a supermarket. A bottle of water and sunscreen bought on the strip is often cheaper than the same bottle in the hotel shop, but we are not publishing shelf prices. Read the sticker. Menus on the strip are often in dollars. Ask before you order.

You do not need a guide for this afternoon. A lobby seller who attaches a “tour” to a supermarket run is selling the tour, not the milk. If you want Macao or Saona, those are different briefings, with their own checks. Do not let them be bundled into a vague “Bávaro day” price.

Send this if you want a planned version

If you want TripTap to arrange the rides rather than doing it from the lobby, send this to hola@triptaplatam.com. We will not invent a package price in the reply. We will tell you what we can confirm.

  • Hotel name: ____. Date and the hours you want to be out: ____
  • The stop you care about (pharmacy, named supermarket, a specific restaurant): ____
  • Number of people, and whether anyone has trouble walking to a curb.
  • Do you need a return pickup at a stated time?
  • Are you trying to add Macao or a buggy? If yes, that is a different booking. Say so.

What to avoid

Do not leave the resort at dusk for the first time because the beach got boring. Do not follow a driver who offers a “cousin who does Saona cheaper” when you asked for a pharmacy. Do not carry the room safe’s worth of cash. Do not assume the hotel will add the taxi to the room bill.
